Will my nail ever be a normal color again?

In early June, I slammed a car door on my finger. I was in a lot of pain that evening and kept it elevated and on an ice pack. Long story short, the following morning, still in pain, I went to the emergency room. The doctor burned a small hole in the nail to release the blood that was trapped under the nail and relieve the pressure. I had a follow-up check and the doctor said everything was fine and that I'd probably lose the nail.





However, it is now almost August and the bottom half of my nail is still blue. It's not painful at all and there's no infection. But I'm somewhat vain and would like to see a normal color nail again. I've been covering it with nail polish in the meantime.





Does anyone know how long it takes for a nail to return to normal after an injury? FYI: I never lost the nail as the doctor had predicted and still have my original nail.Will my nail ever be a normal color again?
oh girl...let me tell you what. first of all, my dad did the same thing, and i think it has been about 8 months and he is just now getting back to normal! i was removing acrylics once and accidentally jammed the knife i was using through the nail and into the nailbed. took about 7 months to grow up past nail bed. depends on how fast your nails grow. don't waste money on products that claim they'll increase growth. it doesn't work. i've tried 'em all. you've got a good idea for the nail polish. good thing the nail is still on. when the damage is so bad that the nail falls off, often times it's kinda gnarly when it tries to grow back. don't pick at it. let it be. go try 'electric strawberries' by revlon. very summer-ish. :)Will my nail ever be a normal color again?
ouch! my friend did that and it took a long time for it to be its normal color. it was nasty. i hope it gets better
the nail will eventually grow out and replace itself with new nail - may take another month or two, depending on how fast your nails grow Sounds like your case was a little more severe than most if doctor had to drill a hole
thats the same that happened to me but it was my toe!!


my nail never fell off and was a purple colour


so i started to cut it and the nail started to grow back the normal colour


maybe if you cut it once and a while it will grow back with the original colour.

i have been a nail tech for 12 yrs and have seen this. i am surprised your nail never did fall off. it really should grow off; if your nails grow slow it could take up to a year. but i want to know is did you damage the cuticle. ( which is under your skin at the base of your nail) if that was damage it may not be growing or you may have trouble with the nail.
