Short nails look like dots with red or maroon; pale or neutrals are more attractive for them. Depending on what ';long'; means to you, red and maroon are okay until they look like bloody claws. (My opinion, of course). To be honest, there's not much of a difference on length. What matters most is your skin type. For instance, tan skin doesn't look the best with red polish. Yellow based skin doesn't look good with hot pink or maroon.

like if you were going for black polish, definitely with short nails, or else it looks creepy! for red, i think you can go either way, just make sure that you can deal with the nails if they will be long!! another thing you could try, if you like the color, want long nails, but don't want old-lady vibes coming from you, is to get a french manicure, but replace the typical white tips with red or maroon tips, it looks innovative and fresh!!
